IN WHAT CONTEXT?

SYNOPSIS

Decades ago, Ifugao farmers would receive little to zero information from the outside world. With the emergence of markets and information and communication systems, (tourism, television, internet), locals can more easily access to information and entertainment, with a slow but real influence on their dream and lifestyle. Naturally and by the effects of many influences, the indigenous culture and agricultural practices are changing. Majority of the young Ifugao abandons, little by little their traditional lifestyle, customs, religion and a big part of their sacred rituals and traditions.

If they pursue modern objective and facilitate the game of market forces as well as urbanization, the future of Batad is culturally questioned. If educated ifugao population migrates to other regions in search of employment, how could they contribute in the preservation of their cultural heritage, environment and ancient agricultural practices?

Our Pachao and then aims to achieve specific objectives in content. It is willing to document on one major problem, the loss of culture and its impacts on identity and cultural heritage. The documentary will address two points in question, that of the impact of an open economy market _and the out-migration resulting from it, as well as the weaknesses of the educational system in Batad.

Along with this, and to refrain the documentary to be too technical in form, further researches are being done on the possibility to document the rural-urban migration journey of a young Batad inhabitant leaving for the lowlands.
